Black Women's Arts Festival Newsletter 7/31/09

Hellooooo Beautiful people!!

So excited about BWAF 2009 (Thurs 7/30 thru Sun 8/2)!!

FOUR DAYS

9 PHILADELPHIA VENUES

OVER 50 ARTISTS!!

Last night we had a beautiful opening ceremony at Circle of Hope - so much beauty - followed by dancing and live
performances at Rum Bar hosted by "Any Questions?" a great party that happens at Rum Bar every last Thursday with DJs
BFree and Pheonix!

Tonight there are lots of events happening - check www.BWAFphilly.org for the complete schedule - but I'm heading now to
Kaffa Crossing where I'll be hosting 2 open mics, singing and playing guitar, and there will be other featured acts as well.

If you can only make one or two shows this weekend, you MUST make it to:

Sizzle: A Night of Burlesque at the Rotunda tomorrow night (SaturdaY) followed by Monica's Going Away AND Birthday Party
afterwards at another place- I think Stir, but check the schedule to be sure!

I'm not glamorized yet with my own portable internet device so I'm at the Van Pelt Library on UPenn's campus at 34th & Walnut...

Gotta rush to Kaffa now to see your lovely faces.

Hope you can be there or at any other event (the always adorable Jack Drummond will be hosting the event at Green Line Cafe
and I SO wish I could skip out and go give him a hug - I haven't seen him in YEARS!)

Enjoy the weekend, everyone - and I'll try to write again soon -

Oh, Children's Storytime at Big Blue Marble Books tomorrow morning, and Vendor's Marketplace at Arts Garage --- so
much to do, so little time!

Whoo-hoo!!

Cassendre Xavier
BWAF Founder (and soon to be Executive Director) -you heard it here first, folks!

Themed Journal Pre-Order

We are very excited to be launching this summer our first licensed products!

The Black Women’s Arts Festival “Themed Journals” will be unveiled at this year’s 6th annual Festival.
Featuring the beautiful artwork of black women artists (some of whom have featured at BWAF) in full color on the cover, and original theme-related quotes by BWAF founder and award-winning author Cassendre Xavier, these lined, conveniently spiral-bound journals will be touchstones for years to come.
You can be the first to have your own by preordering one or more today!
They are affordably priced at $14.95 and 100% of the proceeds of each journal ordered go directly to BWAF. A 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, you can be assured that your purchase from BWAF is fully tax-deductible. And if you preorder now, we’ll even waive the shipping and handling!

The themes so far are:
Abundance
Renewal
Transformation
Enlightenment
Joy
Transcendence
Community
Creativity
Friendship
Family
Opportunity
Justice
Peace
Serenity
Mindfulness
Spirituality
Talent
Diversity
Perserverence
Genius
Heart
Strength
Renewal

For this special offer, we will select the theme for you, and mail your journal(s) no later than September 30, 2009 (please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery).
This is a fundraiser for BWAF 2009 which is scheduled for July 30 – Aug 2nd. We regretfully cannot promise to reserve your journal for you to pick up at the Festival itself, nor can we guarantee that your first choice of theme will be available.
These conditions are for this special offer only. After the Festival, we will be able to take orders the regular way – via mail order and so forth.
But for now, we’re hoping you’ll be as excited as we are about this project and preorder yours to help the Festival, get a tax break, save about five bucks in shipping and handling, and get a very beautiful and unique surprise in the mail come Autumn!
Below is a link to securely order using your bank card on Paypal.

If you prefer to mail us a check or money order instead, you may do so by sending it PAYABLE TO: BLACK WOMEN’S ARTS FESTIVAL to:
